His presence and yours did much for that store in the early 90s and I mean Haight Street!Frank Santorohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04272645079882634258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17469865.post-65351695235081282392011-02-17T21:02:29.148-08:002011-02-17T21:02:29.148-08:00While I never had the chance to observe her work i...While I never had the chance to observe her work in the CR environment (or, technically speaking, to have observed her in person at all!), I've got to second Ms. Blarg's praise. Kristine is without question the finest, most knowledgeable publisher's rep I've ever dealt with in 21 years as a retailer, whose enthusiasm and candor I can always rely upon in choosing stock for our shop. And she's a swell human bean as well!Devlin Thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11358271733393938491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17469865.post-42790215006536232962011-02-16T18:13:30.592-08:002011-02-16T18:13:30.592-08:00I like this. Fun Fact: I had Steven's old afro saved in a bag in storage for YEARS. True love? Totally gross? A combo of the two? Even though I enjoyed about 20 years of personal history with CR, I'm not sad about the closing - only excited for the new store. I can't wait to drop tons of money there. Or at least my version of tons of money.

Thanks for writing this!Janelle Blarghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08589199091349462343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17469865.post-11474165254714889892011-02-16T17:18:14.428-08:002011-02-16T17:18:14.428-08:00Dylan, it was great to read your post. Don't ...Dylan, it was great to read your post. Don't know if you remember me, but I worked at CR in 88-89, then again some time later...and had worked with Mike and Kristine at Best of Two Worlds before that. You're absolutely right: it was those folks who made CR one of the premier comic bookshops in the country. I also worked with Steven and Josh, Mark Stichman, Emil, Kathleen (Abby), and others who contributed so much to CR's greatness & expertise. I learned so much from all of them.
I never personally worked with Todd, but he was truly the 'spiritual heir' to Rory's legacy, and I was saddened that Rory's wishes weren't followed in handing over the reins to Todd. So much has been written about Rory's influence, all of which is warranted, but Mike & Kristine's considerable contributions have mostly gone unsung; so I'm glad you highlighted the contributions of some of the other folks who played such a large part in making Comic Relief the legendary place it was.David A Díaznoreply@blogger.com
